India is Language neutral

with 5 comments

I didn’t know the reality till today until I had this debate on ‘Politics in India’ with my friends father who told me that Hindi is not a National Language.

Here’s the direct reference to the fact from Wikipedia regarding Languages of India and below is the excerpt from the same

Article 345 of the Indian constitution provides recognition to “Official Languages” of the union to include any one or more of the languages in use in the state or Hindi language adopted by a state legislature as the official language of that state.

As per the Article 345 of the Indian constitution Hindi is Official Language but doesn’t hold the National Language rank. An Official Language is one which is used in Courts, Parliment, and Administration.

I still remember being thought in the school that ‘Hindi’ is our National Language, Tiger as National Animal, and Peacock as National Bird. But what baffles me is how the State Government’s didn’t object of such false content being used to teach the young minds. Anyways, the intent is to educate the readers but not raise any obnoxious questions or hurt anyone’s feelings.

TN Number in Kannada

Bamboozling... TN Number in Kannada

While heading back home late night this Yamaha in front of me caught my sight by surprise… What’s so unique? On contemplating I could sense that it’s actually a TN bike but may be he had not paid Road Tax in Karnataka and to escape from the traffic cops this guy had put the registration number in Kannada or my theory is all wrong. But, really an intellectual – Kudos to this guy 🙂

Goodbye 2008 and Welcome 2009

with 4 comments

Year 2008 had full of surprises both good and bad, both personally and professionally. But all in all it had not been so good to me though. I bid goodbye to Year 2008 and welcome Year 2009 with new hopes in my eyes – there’s always a light at the end of tunnel.

Resolution: ‘Stay focused, and think well before acting – there’s no Undo option in life.’

Wish you all a Happy New Year 2009!!!

Can I insure my Job?

with 10 comments

While at work I prefer listening to Radio instead of using Music Player like iPod. The other day on Radio (Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM) there was this interview with one of leading Insurance Company Head- Arg! I don’t have much details on the interview. The point is that this executive was talking about insurance and how these days people are insuring different non-tangible substances even including the Marriage Reception to hedge if it rains or people don’t turn up to the reception as in expected numbers.

Following my previous post on Job Risk in the gloomy market what struck is whether on the sames lines as marriages can we insure our job and get compensated only when we’re fired? On the contrary will the Insurance company provide such a policy to salaried individuals?

I know in reality this is remote possibility but in the virtual world say it’s exists. Given such a policy exists, how will an Insurance company verify whether the policy holder indeed got the pink slip. One possibility is that if the Employer hands the relieving letter stating that the Employee in question is being shown the door. Terrific, that’s a legitimate way. But, again what negative impact will it have on the Employee’s career. Will he be able to easily get new job given that he has been fired from his current job; Read the rest of this entry »

If not IT what else?

with 7 comments

Yesterday BofA (Bank of America) bought Merrill Lynch giving 0.85 BofA share for every Merrill Share. Also, Lehman Brothers filed Chapter 11 – Bankruptcy. That’s not the end of the story, AIG – The largest insurance company in the US is also on the verge. It has requested the Fed for emergency funds.

While this is what is happening in the US, I learnt that Satyam Computers, one of India’s leading software services company, is about to fire 4500 of its employees. It says that it’s their annual drill in which they show the doors to those employees whose performance is not up to the mark. It’s not just Satyam many IT firms are following suite.

I’m basically a Software Developer by profession working out of Bengaluru (or more commonly called as Bangalore). The common perception is that Software professionals have ‘The Midas Touch’, whatever we touch will turn into gold. Well that may be the past, these days most of the software guys are in the line of fire. Nobody knows when they’ll get the pink slip.

Because of the US market volatility due to Credit Crisis and Dollar depreciation the IT firms are making fewer profits and also the US companies have brought down the project outsourcing to some extent. That’s not all. The US Republic and Democratic parties are now talking about putting tough laws against outsourcing in their election campaign for the Presidential post. This means less IT work coming to India. The UK Govt. is also talking about issuing less Read the rest of this entry »
